- The
U. S. Air Force Space and Missle System Center , Rocket Systems
Launch Program has been tasked by the Missle Defense Agency (MDA)
to determine the feasibility of using existing (c 1960) LOX/RP-1
LR-89 Thrust Chamber Assemblies, operating in a derated pressure-fed
mode, to power ballistic missle target vehicles.
- The
LR-89 engine is the highest thrust LOX/RP-1 engine tested at SSC
since the F-1 engine, which powered the Saturn V moon rocket,
was last tested in 1970
