LR-89 Test Article
  • The U. S. Air Force Space and Missle System Center , Rocket Systems Launch Program has been tasked by the Missle Defense Agency (MDA) to determine the feasibility of using existing (c 1960) LOX/RP-1 LR-89 Thrust Chamber Assemblies, operating in a derated pressure-fed mode, to power ballistic missle target vehicles.
  • The LR-89 engine is the highest thrust LOX/RP-1 engine tested at SSC since the F-1 engine, which powered the Saturn V moon rocket, was last tested in 1970
LR-89 Status  
  • The E2 Cell 1 Test Facility at SSC has been modified with a new thrust structure and foundation to accomodate the 75 Klbf thrust levels of the derated LR-89 TCA.
  • Testing was successfully completed in October of 2002.
